Personality

This event marks how much you’ve grown and how far you’ve come. This is your celebration, why shouldn’t your accomplishments be represented in your outfit too? Think about what you like to wear and what makes you feel your best. Consider your favourite colour, outfits you like, your favourite fashion decade, favourite celebrity style, and think about whether you could include any of that in your outfit. You’ll feel happier, and look happier in photographs, wearing something that reflects you.

Practicality

You want your outfit to be smart and personal, but you also want it to be practical. There is a few aspects of your outfit that need to be considered for practicality.

You will be wearing your suit for several hours. To ensure your comfort and that you look your best, a good fit is essential. Get your suit sizing done by a professional, such as a member of our team. You have two options for the best fit possible. You can either get your suit tailored or you can buy your suit pieces separately, getting the correct size in each piece. This is how we sell suits at SUAVE OWL, ensuring the best possible fit, best look, and optimum comfort for our customers.

At your prom, there should be dancing. In a well-fitting suit, movement should be no issue. Just note that if you buy new shoes, wear them extensively before the day to ensure your feet don’t rub. Otherwise, polish up a reliable pair of old favourites. Make sure you tackle this issue whether you're wearing formal shoes or trainers.

If your prom looks like it’s going to be on an incredibly hot day, consider choosing a suit that is lighter in colour. This will both reflect sun rays, keeping you cooler, and stand out in a crowd.

Consider how many layers you’ll be wearing, the activities of the evening, and the time of year. You certainly don’t want to overheat and have a bad time as a result – you want to be able to move, dance, and enjoy yourself without discomfort or worry. There's simple outfit adjustments you can make to stay cool. You could wear a two-piece instead of a full three-piece, removing the extra layer of the waistcoat or jacket. There's no reason you can't look fit for prom in a more relaxed outfit, or even a trendy smart casual one.

Whatever you decide to wear, keep two things in mind. Firstly, you'll want to wear a cotton base layer, as it's a breathable fabric that will keep you from overheating. Whether you wear a button-up shirt or a T-shirt, make sure it's primarily cotton based. Lucky for you, all our SUAVE OWL own brand items are primarily cotton.  Secondly, you'll be far too hot if you have thick socks on that trap heat. Bamboo socks regulate temperature, and are perfect for occasions like this.

Outfits

If you’re struggling for ideas, don’t worry. One of these outfits should inspire you, or at least give you an initial idea to start working with.

There is always the classic option – a matching three-piece suit. It’s a reliable go-to for a very good reason, it makes any man look their best. Easy to style, easy to wear, it’s a polished and timeless look. Style it with a SUAVE OWL white shirt and brogues.

As mentioned, on hotter days, you might want to leave the waistcoat at home. A two-piece look can be just as charming as a three-piece. If you opt for a patterned or brightly coloured shirt, a 2-piece will show that off.

For an even more relaxed look that keeps it smart, keep the suit jacket and shirt but replace your suit trousers with chinos. It’ll keep you in comfort and, with a colour match to your jacket and a good iron, still make you look dressed up. You could wear a suit jacket, suit trousers, with a SUAVE OWL T-shirt, and trainers for prom. Break out of the box in an outfit that feels true to you.

When you have your basic outfit idea, you get to the fun part: choosing your accessories. Different additions can give an outfit a different vibe and elevate a look. For an event like prom, you’ll probably want to wear a tie or bow tie with a matching pocket square. For a bit more intrigue, look up different tie knots (we’re fans of the elderedge knot) and pocket square folds. You will also need to decide between a practical belt and flashy braces, a pocketwatch or wristwatch.
