Best Colours To Wear in Winter

Seasonal colours can be an excellent way to embrace the season! They have two purposes: making you feel seasonal in colour palette and also offering practical benefits. Winter colours are predominantly dark shades, which keep you warmer by attracting warmth from sun light.

Seasonal colours in winter include black, navy, blues, greens, wine, jewel tones, and bright white.

Whilst seasonal colours do exist and can make you feel immersed in winter, they are only a guideline. As always, wear the colours that make you most excited, but do keep in mind that the darker the shade the warmer you will be on the chillier days!

Best Fabrics To Wear in Winter

The right material makes all the difference when it comes to seasonal comfort. If you want a men’s suit that makes you feel your best both in style and comfort, don’t neglect to consider the material it is made of!

The best winter fabrics for clothes are insulating and heavy weight, keeping you warmer and more comfortable on a cold day. Good winter materials include corduroy, flannel, cotton blends, fleece, polyester, and leather.

Men's Winter Accessories

Of course, the perfect men’s suit needs the perfect men’s accessories, but how to choose and how to make it look the best it can?

Firstly, consider your favourites! Men’s formal outfits, and men’s formal accessories by extension, are all about confidence. You will feel most comfortable and confident in the accessories that make you feel your best. So, are you more of a fan of a tie or a bow tie? Do you prefer braces to belts? Do you have a family heirloom you love to wear? Do you prefer your metals to be silver, gold, or something else? Your accessories are all about elevating your outfit, so knowing what accessories you feel elevate you is a must!

Secondly, colour is key. Colour matching accessories to an outfit can be a challenge for some gentleman. Keep it simple. Either match your accessories to a colour in your suit and wear a neutral, likely white, shirt, making for a monochromatic men’s winter suit outfit that will make a smart impression. Or, give your outfit some extra pop – find a complimentary or contrasting colour to your suit and make your accessories that colour; this will be an easier process if your suit has a secondary colour in it, but can be lots of fun still in single colour suits. Don’t try and add too many colours to your outfit, a few colours is enough for a sophisticated, statement suit.

Thirdly, consider the season. Whilst your bow tie and braces aren’t going to keep you much warmer throughout the day, there are winter accessories that will. Scarves can make a fantastic winter style statement, simply choose a scarf in either the same neutral colour as your suit or the same colour as your brightest shade. Gloves can also work fantastically in a men’s winter suit, leather, tweed, or wool gloves all work fantastically well, although keeping your gloves a neutral shade may be a simpler choice. In your men’s formal outfits, you likely won’t want to wear a woolly hat, however a flat cap, bowler hat, baker boy cap, or formal hat will go a long way to keeping you that little bit warmer! Don’t shy away from winter accessories, just simply elevate them as you do the rest of your clothes when attending a formal event.

Lastly, ensure your accessories are as well presented as the rest of your outfit! Keep it clean and ironed where appropriate, you don’t want to wear a stained tie and have it be all people notice! For the full effect, put in the full effort!

Tips For Men's Formal Winter Fashion

You can be very prepared in your men’s winter suit, wearing both thick winter fabric and the appropriate winter colours, and still neglect a few things that will make you uncomfortable throughout the day. These simple tips for men’s winter outfits will best prepare you for winter dressing…

Consider wearing thermal layers underneath your men’s formal attire. A thin thermal vest, underwear, and socks will help you insulate your body and keep yourself warmer whilst not compromising the rest of your outfit.

For men’s formal outfits, keeping yourself dry can be a bit of a challenge. You won’t be able to wear a rain coat like you might usually do. Consider bringing an umbrella to your event, matching it either to your statement colour, a neutral shade, or buying a clear one. It does not compromise your outfit and protects you from getting soaked!

Consider your footwear! You won’t be warm and happy if your feet are wet and cold all day. Gentlemen’s boots can be a fantastic winter choice, ensuring your feet are protected. However, if you are a year round brogue man, adding a waterproof treatment to your shoes can go a long way!

On particularly cold days, an overcoat can be a useful addition to your men’s suit and men’s winter outfit. Formal, distinguished, and still classically stylish, an overcoat can be an invaluable extra layer to a men’s winter suit. Simply wear it in a neutral tone that matches your suit for an outfit that won’t fail.

Lastly, consider your extremities! As stated already, men’s winter accessories definitely have a place in men’s winter formalwear. Your hands, face, neck, and head can all be a way that heat leaves your body. There’s nothing wrong with wrapping up still whilst wearing a men’s winter suit, just make sure you plan for it instead of rushing at the last second! The more consideration you put in to your comfort in a men’s winter suit, the better you’ll feel on the day.
