Aintree Races 2024 - Style Guide for Men

What Should Men Wear To Aintree Races?

If there’s one day in the racing calendar which everyone looks out for, it’s the Grand National. The race at Aintree is the jewel in the national horse racing crown. Even if you’re not a racing fan, it’s tradition to have a bet every April.

This year the "most talked about, most celebrated, most magical races in the world" take place from Thursday 11th 2024 to Saturday 13th April 2024. That's not long to get your outfits sorted gents! But fear not, our style tips and suggestions (and next day delivery) can have you dressed to impress in no time at all. If you want to know what to wear to the races, and what not to wear to the races, this is the blog for you.

2023 saw a revision to The Jockey Club dress code. There is now no formal dress code at any of their 15 racecourses, which include Aintree and Cheltenham. This doesn't mean that you can't look your best or dress traditionally. You simply have more freedom of choice. However, the televised event means that all eyes could be on you. We know the ladies will be on their game, so let's not let the sartorial side down.

We have a multitude of colours from light blues and navies to sages, greys and tans. But why just stick to one colour? Be at the top of your suit game by swapping in a contrasting or complimentary waistcoat. It adds more visual intrigue to your outfit and can make your formal outfit pop.

There's no reason at all why you can't style smart casually and yet keep your look sharp. You can wear your suit jacket and waistcoat with a well pressed slim-fitting pair of chinos, or indeed jeans. Smart casually dressing allows you to stay in style and comfort.

To finish off your effortlessly stylish race day outfit you absolutely must don footwear to fit. A simple Oxford or Brogue style shoe or boot can never fail you, it's easy to not compromise on comfort with our fantastic collection.

Accessorise for the unpredictable Great British weather with flat caps and gloves. Be prepared and stay on form despite the potential wind or rain, there's no reason the elements should impact your day.

Style Tips For Raceday

Take care to ensure the waistcoat is as well fitted as your suit jacket. Your waistcoat should cover the bottom of your shirt and the waistband of your trousers. It should be snug, but the buttons shouldn't be strained - you want to be able to list your arms with comfort. It should lay smoothly against you. Importantly, make sure you leave the last button undone! Our staff in store are always happy to help you find your perfect fit.

Be sure to compliment the suit/blazer and personalise your look with tie or bow tie and pocket square. Don't forget that there are many ways to arrange your square and tie your tie knot, we are big fans of the statement eldredge knot.

Don't let the cold compromise your style. Layer up with a thin thermal underlayer and no-show socks which nobody will ever see!
